INTRODUCTION

Starting a business is very exciting as well as demanding. Many resources are on the web. Particularly helpful is The Small Business Administration (SBA) website - www.sba.gov; and, the local bookstore sells many books about the subject. One site, which is part of the SBA www.sba.gov/advo is dedicated to current small business issues and is sponsored by The Office of Advocacy. This part of the small business administration was created by Congress in 1976, and is an independent voice for small business within the federal government. Visit the Office of Advocacy website to sign up for their bulletins and to learn more about the Office of Advocacy. You will see the following article on the Website “10 Reasons To Love Small Business”. Read about the agency and think about how important small business is to the U.S. economy.

Appointed by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, the Chief Counsel for Advocacy directs the office. The Chief Counsel advances the views, concerns, and interests of small business before Congress, the White House, federal agencies, federal courts, and state policy makers. Economic research, policy analyses, and small business outreach help identify issues of concern. Regional Advocates and an office in Washington, DC, support the Chief Counsel's efforts. For more
information on the Office of Advocacy, call (202) 205-6533.
